Fort Worth, TX — There was an accident reported this past weekend that injured some construction workers in far North Fort Worth, in the Haslet area. Police didn’t offer a lot of details in their reports, but said that four workers were hurt and taken to various hospitals after the trestle they were working on accidentally collapsed.
The accident happened on Saturday (July 18, 2015) at a worksite along Amador Drive, which is a residential street.
It’s not clear just how the trestle collapsed, but two of the workers had very serious injuries while the other two had only minor injuries.
They were all taken to either Texas Health Harris Hospital or John Peter Smith Hospital.
A trestle is the support system (often times made of wooden or metal beams) underneath things like bridges or pathways that span a trench or valley.

Commentary:
I was curious to see this accident reported in the news because, while I know that work accidents happen quite frequently in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, the news rarely reports on them. I’m not sure if they just don’t think it’s very interesting when hard-working men and women are hurt on the job or if they think that nobody else needs to know, but I’ve always thought that the news media should be a little more proactive on that front.
In addition to recognizing problems and fixing them in a very public setting, having the news cover work-related accidents puts a little more pressure on employers to be safe and to treat their employees well — lest they end up on the news for not following OSHA guidelines.
I don’t know what really happened here, but I hope these workers are okay and get the treatment they need. Often times, accidents like these are caused by a rushed schedule and a lack of safety gear, which are common elements at worksites, unfortunately.
