Frisco, CO — Two crew members aboard a Flight for Life helicopter that crashed in Frisco this past Friday (July 3, 2015) are still being treated at a hospital, but have survived the accident. Patrick Mahaney, the pilot of the helicopter, died in the crash that afternoon, however.
The accident I’m talking about happened on Frisco’s east side, a short distance from St. Anthony Summit Medical Center. A Flight for Life helicopter was being piloted by Patrick Mahaney and carried two other crew members. Last Friday afternoon, the helicopter took off, but immediately had problems and began pitching and wobbling.
The helicopter crashed in a matter of 20 seconds, a witness claimed, and Patrick Mahaney was killed. The crew members aboard haven’t been identified, but were immediately rushed to hospitals in Denver to be treated. As of this weekend, one was in critical condition and one was in fair condition.

Commentary:
From what little I’ve learned about this helicopter crash, it seems as if the helicopter itself was having some major mechanical issues or engine problems right before the crash. Is anyone taking a look into the machinery and the engine to see if anything malfunctioned? Pilot error is the conclusion that most people jump to when they hear about these kinds of accidents, but that’s not always accurate.
One of the other places that should be check into is Air Method, which appears to be the company that owned this helicopter. Someone was responsible for maintaining this machine and making sure it was working correctly. If someone neglected their duties and indirectly caused an accident that left an innocent man dead and two others injured, then they need to be held accountable for their actions, or lack thereof.
