Police Say Steven Monia Is Badly Injured after De Soto, MO Accident with Box Truck

De Soto, MO — A man from St. John, 21-year old Steven Monia, was badly injured and flown to a hospital earlier this year after his Pontiac car was in a wreck with a Chevy box truck. This happened along Highway 110 on January 9, 2015 at about 7:45 p.m. in the evening.

Not many details were reported by the Missouri State Highway Patrol, but they implied that Monia may have been at fault for the wreck.

They claim that Monia was driving his Pontiac west along Highway 110 that night when he came upon a curve in the road near Upper Plattin Road. A Chevy box truck driven by Richard Brian was headed in the opposite direction and they collided head-on along the curve.

Monia was badly injured by the wreck and had to be life-flighted to a nearby hospital while Brian and his passenger, Landon Prater, were both taken to a different hospital with minor injuries. It appears that one of the drivers swerved into oncoming traffic, but it’s not clear which one. Again, the police reports imply that Monia’s car may have swerved.

Commentary:

I don’t know much about how accurate the details in the police report were, but I think they should always be double-checked. If this driver was simply going the wrong way or failed to maintain his lane, then that’s one thing. But if the box truck had swerved into oncoming traffic, then this entire wreck would need to be investigated again.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
