Commentary:
Even though not much is known about how the accident happened, based on some research, we can still speculate on how the accident may be handled and viewed from a legal perspective. Believe it or not, Alaska has some pretty forward-thinking liquor liability laws. If a bar or licensed liquor establishment comes to the realization that somebody is visibly intoxicated, they are to be removed from the premises, and failing to do this could land them in serious trouble? How? Well, if somebody remains on property, and is furnished with more alcohol, and that customer causes an accident on the way home, the bar can be held civilly liable for failing in their legal duty to cut off and remove an intoxicated patron. The state will do its best to punish the offending driver, but it is up to victims to hold bars responsible for failing to cut off drunks when they had the chance.
