Commentary
The thing is, once police catch the driver, he won’t even be able to use, “I didn’t know I had hit someone,” as an excuse. This sort of behavior really is deplorable. It’s bad for the driver. It’s worse for the victim. And there’s really no excuse for it. Is it possible that the driver of an 18-wheeler didn’t realize they had hit a pedestrian that had walked out in front of their truck? It’s possible. Sometimes I don’t realize I’m going over 75 on the highway in my Nissan Murano, so I can believe that somewhere out there there’s a driver surrounded by 80,000 pounds of truck who hit someone and honestly didn’t realize it. However, I don’t believe that someone driving a four-door sedan would make the same mistake. The driver in this accident needs to be held responsible, because there’s nothing acceptable about this behavior.
