Corpus Christi, TX — Police have identified Ernest Stephens as the victim of a fatal hit and run accident in Corpus Christi, Texas, on Sunday, July 20, 2014. The accident took place on Weber Road, near S. Padre Island Drive, around nine at night.
Stephens was crossing the road when he was hit by what’s described as a silver SUV. The vehicle never stopped.
Reports say that Stephens was not using the crosswalk.
Stephens was taken to Christus Spohn Memorial Hospital and pronounced dead.
Those with information on the accident are being asked to call Crime Stoppers at 361-888-8477.

The chances are good that the only reason someone is going to flee the scene of an accident like this is because they know they’ve done something wrong, are scared of the consequences, and don’t want to get caught. The irony is that, when the driver of the SUV is eventually caught, things are going to be so much worse for them, because then they’ll be charged with fleeing the scene of an accident. And rightly so. They should be held responsible for this sort of behavior. It benefits no one. Not the guilty party, and certainly not the victim.
