Commentary:
There is a great deal of information missing from this news article, but this is a situation where speed could have contributed to the severity of the accident based on what I see in the news summary. If the victims vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic, and had time to strike an object before being hit by the tractor-trailer, I’m wondering why the tractor-trailer was unable to take proper evasive actions if in fact there was time to react. If the truck was speeding, it may not have had the time or distance to avoid the crash, and the trucking company could be partially liable simply for the fact that the crash didn’t need to be as bad as it was had the driver been following the law.
