News reports indicated that car accident on US-171 near Gillis LA left 20-year old Ashley Nicole Oles with critical injuries after she was thrown from her car. Reportedly Oles was driving a 1999 Chevrolet pickup truck along US-171 and accelerated into oncoming traffic striking a 2012 Chevrolet CTV.

The CTVs driver 59-year old Gary Martin was not seriously injured and was apparently wearing his seat belt at the time of the accident. Oles was thrown from her truck however due to not wearing a seat belt and was subsequently injured. She was taken to a local hospital but no further details about her condition were given. Oles was also suspected of failing to yield at a stop sign.
