Dallas Police Say Trucker Injured after Two Semis Crash on I-35E

Dallas, TX — There was a wreck on I-35E in South Dallas yesterday (Thursday, April 30, 2015) that involved two semi-trucks and left one of the drivers with injuries. This happened at about 5:00 a.m on Thursday morning, near I-20.

The news reports said that a white semi-truck was headed south on I-35E that morning and was near Wheatland Road when it crashed into the back of another semi-truck.

The driver in the first truck was injured and had to be taken to a hospital after rescue workers cut him out of his cab. The seond truck driver apparently wasn’t hurt.

From the news reports, the truck the first driver was in belonged to Birmingham, AL-based SNC Distribution Services Corporation.

Commentary:

The truck driver who was injured here appears to have been driving for SNC, a company based out of Alabama. I did a little research on their company here in Dallas because I thought perhaps something might’ve been wrong with this driver’s truck or brakes. What I found was that this company (assuming the information I got from the news is correct, of course) has had 418 vehicle inspections in the last 2 years, resulting in 238 violations and 42 trucks being taken off the road until they could pass an inspection.

Now, this is a mid-sized company, it appears, with only 426 trucks in its fleet. However, that’s still quite a few trucks to keep up with. I’m not saying that their poor maintenance record is indicative that something was wrong with this truck, but I don’t think that’s the kind of information you should ignore either.

This is why I choose to research these things (as with all the cases we handle) because if you rely solely on the police report, you won’t get the whole story. I think plenty of people would be content to blame this accident on the SNC truck driver, when it might have been out of his control.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
