ODESSA, TX — One man has died after a traffic accident in Odessa, Texas on Wednesday, May 28th, 2014, according to a news report from Odessa American Online.
Authorities have said that they have reason to believe Jeffrey Patrick was killed when he was hit by a pickup truck when he was walking along or trying to cross West University Boulevard around 11:30 Wednesday night.
Scene of the Accident
Jeffrey Patrick was pronounced dead on the scene by emergency responders. The driver of the pickup truck was identified in the news reports as Freddy Hinojosa, who was unhurt after the accident.
The investigation is currently ongoing.
This kind of accidents is really going to boil down to where the pedestrian was standing when they were struck. If the victim was in a parking lot, on the sidewalk, in the emergency lane, or a marked crosswalk, then the driver is probably going to bear the brunt of the fault. If the victim was just standing in the roadway, and the driver saw them far off, and struck them without taking evasive action, the driver can also be faulted. Again, its all dependent on the position of the victim.
