Commentary:

I see two major red flags about this accident in the news. The fact that the victim was not in the road and was waiting to cross, and the fact that the driver of the offending vehicle faces drunk driving related charges stemming from the accident. With this accident, I’d be very, very curious to know if the offending driver had just left a bar before the accident. What does this matter in the grand scheme of things? Well, quite a bit, actually. If the offending driver decided to spend his evening at a bar, where they were served alcohol, and continued to be served despite their obvious symptoms of intoxication, then the bar can be seen as an accomplice, just as getaway drivers are seen as an accomplices to robberies. The State of Texas holds bars and other licensed liquor establishments to very high standards when it comes to serving alcohol, and if these standards and guidelines were violated with this driver, then the family can and should hold them responsible for the role they played in the accident.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
