West Creek, NJ — There was a natural gas explosion in West Creek at a residential home last month that left several workers injured, two seriously. Dean Barnett, 47, and Ed Jones are both natural gas workers who were the most seriously injured on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 when the basement of the home they were working in exploded.

Jones and Barnett were two workers at the home, investigating reports of natural gas odor coming from a house on Cedar Run. As they were working to investigate and evacuate other homes in the area, the basement of the home in question exploded.

The damage was major and the explosion started a large fire. Dean Barnett was critically injured and had to be taken to a hospital along with Ed Jones, who was in serious condition the next day.

Several other workers and firefighters were also injured by the explosion. Right now, authorities aren’t really sure what caused the accidental explosion, but they are still investigating. The house was completely leveled during the event, leaving only the concrete basement intact. Fortunately, nobody was inside the home and there were no fatalities reported.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
