Chicago, IL — There was a hit-and-run accident this past Friday morning (March 6, 2015) in the Fuller Park area of Chicago that involved a semi-truck and a woman lying injured in the street. Police said that a woman was struck and injured by a silver-blue semi-truck that fled the scene after an accident that morning.

According to their reports, the woman was at the intersection of 47th Street and Wentworth Avenue (which is the access road to the interstate) when she was hit by a passing semi-truck. The accident left her with major injuries and she had to be taken to a hospital immediately.

The semi-truck, however, did not stop and continued going north on Wentworth and turning the wrong way down Swann Street. The driver was not found and police are still looking for the truck, which did not have a trailer attached to it, but appeared to have a white-yellow logo on the passenger door.

Commentary:

In my experience in dealing with these kinds of accidents (involving hit-and-run drivers), people usually flee the scene of the accident because they’re either A) scared or B) they have something to hide. Now, I don’t know what really happened here, but I hope I don’t hear the age-old excuse of, “I didn’t even know I hit someone.” That’s something I’ve heard from countless truck drivers, using the size and weight of their truck to justify why they left the scene of an accident.

Perhaps this woman was in the middle of the street when this happened and was completely in the wrong, but that a witness allegedly saw the truck driving the wrong way down a nearby street, well, that just sounds fishy to me. Does anyone else have any more information about what happened?

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
