Amarillo, TX — Police have identified Thomas Brown as the man who was injured in an alleged drunk-driving accident in Amarillo, Texas, on Friday, February 27, 2015. The accident took place in the 4100 block of Interstate 27, around 2:00 in the morning.
Reports say that Brown was traveling north on I-27 when he lost control of his 2000 Hyundai and drove off the road. He crashed into the center median before rolling his vehicle and coming to a stop on the feeder road.
Officials say that Brown suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash. Emergency workers took him to a local hospital. There’s been no update on his current condition.
Officials believe that Brown was intoxicated at the time of the accident. The investigation continues.

Reports say that this accident happened around 2:00 in the morning, and that they believe the driver to have been drunk at the time. That fits the pattern of many drunk-driving accidents. They typically happen very early in the morning or late at night, usually while the driver is on his way home from a bar. Anytime I see an accident like this, I have to wonder if a bar was in fact involved. Texas law forbids establishments that serve alcohol to continue to serve someone who’s obviously intoxicated. The reason for that being, the more alcohol they consume, the greater chance they have of getting into an accident. If a bar chooses to continue to serve who’s already drunk, and that person goes out and gets into an accident, the bar can be held liable for the accident. Of course, the bar isn’t the only one held responsible. It was the driver who chose to get behind the wheel, so they have to shoulder some of the blame, obviously. But if a bar is breaking a law designed to prevent accidents like this, they should be held accountable for that.
