Commentary:
Even though police have yet to confirm alcohol as a factor in this accident, people need to understand what can happen if it is confirmed. Many do not know just how accountable bars and other licensed liquor sellers/distributors can be in regards to accidents. If the driver in this accident had recently left a bar where a bartender or server encouraged them to stay for one more round, when the driver should have instead been cut off, the bar can, and should be held accountable. Any time I see a server say “are you sure you don’t want one for the road?”, I see it as a gun range instructor giving permission to a student to do something dangerous. If the bar illegally sold alcohol to an already intoxicated individual, that bar needs to be held accountable for any damage caused by the customer they could have cut off at their discretion.
