Palestine, Texas — There was a serious car accident reported in Palestine along Highway 155 on Wednesday of this week (February 11, 2015) that left one young man dead and another seriously injured. Police later identified the victims as Karl Pierre, 20, and Jaylon Brown, also 20.
The accident involving the two young men happened on Wednesday morning at about 7:00 a.m. Karl Pierre was driving a Chevrolet Tahoe SUV along southbound Highway 155 that morning (with Brown as his passenger) when he lost control for unknown reasons and began to drift into the median dividing northbound and southbound traffic.
It appears that Pierre then over-corrected and steered back into the southbound lanes, then steered into the median once again. His SUV ultimately overturned multiple times and left both Pierre and Brown with critical injuries.
Later that morning, Karl Pierre passed away from his injuries while Brown was said to still be in serious condition. As of now, police aren’t sure what caused the accident or what happened. They are still investigating.

Commentary:
One news report here mentioned a blown tire. I’m not sure if that’s accurate, but if it is, then I think there may need to be an investigation into why it blew out. The most common reasons for tire failures are: 1) wrong-sized tire, 2) worn out tire, or 3) defective tire. Everyone always assumes that tires fail because they hit something sharp or were just too old, but there are lots of instances each year of defective tires as well, so I hope that’s not what happened here.
