UPDATE: Sherrie Anderson Injured in Tractor-Trailer Accident in St Paul, Minnesota

ST PAUL, MN — Sherrie Anderson was identified as the woman that was hurt in a tractor-trailer accident that happened in St Paul, Minnesota on Tuesday, February 10th, 2015. Local news said that the accident happened sometime Tuesday morning.

50-year-old Sherrie Anderson was hurt when the vehicle she was driving and a tractor-trailer collided for reasons currently under investigation while driving on Interstate 190. Police said that a tractor-trailer struck Anderson’s vehicle when it slowed for a jackknifed tractor-trailer.

Anderson was injured in the accident. Police said that the roads were icy at the time of the accident.

Minnesota State Police are helping with the accident investigation.

Commentary:

I’ve seen several news reports mention the fact that there was ice on the road at the time of the accident, which makes me wonder why the tractor-trailer that hit the vicitm’s car was traveling at a speed high enough to make stopping in-time in the event of an emergency. Truck drivers are extensively trained on driving in adverse conditions, and this includes tailoring speed and following distance to match the conditions of the road. If the truck driver was going too fast and couldn’t stop when they should have been able to, then the trucking company behind the second truck needs to answer some tough questions about the accident. Now, if I were to guess, I’d say that the trucking company will try to call this accident unavoidable, but have you ever seen a vehicle unable to stop when it was driving at too safe a pace?

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
