Given the time of day at which this accident happened, I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that the driver was at a bar, was driving home, and got into the accident. If he was drunk enough to do that after leaving the bar, I wonder how drunk he was while at the bar. That’s important because Texas law says that establishments that serve alcohol aren’t allowed to continue serving those who are obviously intoxicated. Why is that? Well, the more alcohol someone’s had to drink, the greater chance they have of going out and doing something like this. Luckily, no one was seriously hurt. The next time something like this happens, that luck may not hold out. And yes, that’s something a bar can be held responsible for. Not in place of a drunk driver, but alongside them. Because if a bar refuses to cut someone off, and that person goes out and gets into a wreck, the bar has directly complicit in that, and should be held responsible.
