Argyle, TX — This past Wednesday night, a pilot headed to the Denton Enterprise Airport experienced some trouble mid-flight and crashed in Argyle. The pilot, 52-year old Flower Mound resident William Graves, died in the crash.
This was reported at about 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday night (February 5, 2015), across the road from the Liberty Christian School off Stonecrest. Graves was flying a small twin-engine Cessna that night and was headed to Denton when something went wrong.
The plane went down in a small field off Stonecrest, near a construction site, and Graves passed away immediately. Right now, some more investigation by the Texas DPS and the FAA is going on, so it’s not yet clear what caused the plane to crash.

Organizations like the FAA and the NTSB are dedicated to gathering data and conducting studies/investigations to help make things safer for us — whether in the air or on the road. However, timeliness isn’t always their strong suit and their focus is decidedly not on getting the investigation done as soon as possible. The problem with that is that if something went wrong here – for example, something malfunctioned or was defective – there’s a statute of limitations on when a claim can be filed. A typical FAA investigation can take 6-9 months just to get the preliminary information released, which is eating up valuable time. Having a third-party investigation is a good way to speed things up and get more focused results.
