IRVINE, CA — Devon Williams was identified as the woman that died after a single-vehicle accident that police believe was alcohol-related in Irvine, California on Monday, January 26th, 2015. Officials said that the accident happened at about 11:00 Monday night.
23-year-old Devon Williams was killed when the car she was a passenger in crashed while driving on Shady Canyon Road. Officials said that the vehicle drove off the road and rolled for reasons currently under investigation.
Williams was taken by paramedics to Western Medical Center where she died of her injuries. The driver of the offending vehicle was later identified as Colin Selsted, who currently faces drunk driving related charges stemming from the accident.
Irvine Police are handling the accident investigation.

Currently, Texas and California occupy the top two slots on the list of the deadliest drunk driving states in the nation, but do you know what separates the two? Currently, in the State of Texas, a bar can be held liable for accidents that happen when bartenders and servers fail to cut off obviously intoxicated individuals, and those customers cause an accident. While the State punishes the driver, victims and surviving family can hold the bar liable for failing in their legal responsibility to serve alcohol in a safe, controlled fashion. Unfortunately, in the State of California, bars can only be held liable under very specific circumstances, and really cut back on the accountability in the grand scheme of things. As it stands now, a bar in Texas can be punished for serving somebody 20 shots in an hour, but bars in California can serve double that amount and face no consequences. What kind of message does this send?
