Dell Rapids, SD — A South Dakota Department of Transportation worker was injured after he was hit by a drilling rig in Dell Rapids on Wednesday, February 4, 2015.
The DOT crew was transporting a drilling rig on a flatbed trailer. A boom arm on the rig was extended, and hanging in the southbound lane of the highway. A southbound semi-truck crashed into the boom, which spun it around and sent it crashing into a worker standing on the back of the trailer.
The worker sustained serious injuries and was taken to Dell Rapids Hospital before being transferred to Avera McKennan Hospital. His name has not been released.
Police are still investigating the accident, but reports say that no citations are expected.
