Commentary
Accidents like this, which involve either the police or a school district or some sort of public transportation vehicle are always a little tricky because these entities are controlled by the state. The government allows for claims to be brought against these organizations, but the rules that must be followed in doing do are very strict, and have to followed very exactly. Victims have only a limited amount of time in which to bring the claim (in Arlington, Texas, I believe the time frame in 180 days from the accident). There are often limits put on the amount of compensation one can receive. In any case, these sorts of accidents are not like typical car accidents, so people need to make sure they’ve educated themselves, because missing a vital piece of information — or listening to someone who really doesn’t know what he’s talking about — can be very damaging to their claim.
