Kirbyville, TX — A man from Kountze was killed earlier this week after he was hit by a car along U.S. 96 in between Kirbyville and Buna. Police later identified the victim as Chad Drake, 35 years old.
The accident happened at about 10:30 p.m. on Monday night of this week, January 26, 2015. Police said that Chad Drake was apparently walking southbound along U.S. 96, in the correct direction with traffic, when he was hit by a Ford that was also headed south on the highway.
The driver of the Ford, 68-year old June Maricle, apparently didn’t see Drake in time and hit him from behind. What’s unclear is whether Drake was walking in the roadway at the time of the accident or walking on the shoulder. More investigation is expected, though it doesn’t appear that Mrs. Maricle will face any charges related to the accident.
