Conroe, Texas — There was an accident in rural Conroe this past Friday morning (January 23, 2015) that injured at least three people and police think alcohol might’ve been a factor. This happened at about 4:00 a.m. on Friday morning when a PT Cruiser was hit head-on by a pickup truck that lost control.
This happened along Old Houston Road, near the intersection in far southeast Conroe with FM 3083. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office reported that a Chevrolet pickup truck was driving south along Old Houston Road that early morning when the driver lost control and swerved into the northbound lanes.
The truck crashed head-on into an oncoming PT Cruiser, injuring that driver with a broken leg and the two passengers as well. All three in the PT Cruiser were taken to a hospital. The driver of the pickup truck was taken to a hospital as well, but was in stable condition at the last update.
At this point, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office mentioned that impairment might have been a factor, but they haven’t confirmed anything yet.

Commentary:
I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it again. When our court systems and law enforcement officers target drunk drivers for prosecution, they’re only doing half the job. The fact of the matter is that a lot of alcohol-related accidents happen after drivers leave a bar or an establishment that serves alcohol. To sell alcohol in Texas, you have to agree not to sell to anyone who is obviously intoxicated, among other things. Well, a lot of people drink themselves silly in a bar and never get warned or cut off, the bar is happy to take their money and unleash a potentially dangerous driver for everyone else on the road to deal with.
Now, I’m not saying that’s what happened here, but the fact that alcohol was mentioned by the Sheriff’s office gives me cause to speak about this topic. I really think that to make a big difference in drunk driving accidents (because we have a lot in Texas), we need to be going after the bars and establishments that are over-serving their customers. Again, I’m not saying that’s what happened here, specifically, but it’s something to think about.
