Claycomo, MO — There was an industrial accident reported at the Ford Assembly Plant in Claycomo on Tuesday, December 30, 2014. A contracted worker at the plant was killed when a beam somehow fell on him, sources said.
The man’s name hasn’t been released yet, but we know that the accident happened during the construction of a new assembly line. The man was working in a “pit” when a beam accidentally fell and landed on him. He was a contracted millwright, the reports said.
OSHA is investigating this and Ford released a statement the next day expressing their condolences. Still, it’s unclear what caused the accident in the first place. According to another report by OSHA, this particular plant has been investigated twice in 2014, one of which was in December as well.
We’ll release more information as soon as it’s available.

Commentary:
Numerous sources have called this person a “contracted millwright,” which suggests that he’s not a regular employee there at the Ford plant. But, even though he was a contractor, he still deserves all the same safety precautions and obligations that Ford owes their regular employees. I’m wondering what really caused this accident, was it someone’s carelessness? Was this worker afforded all the same protection as the other workers? Is it possible that a mechanical malfunction or something along those lines caused this accident? Clearly, there needs to be more investigation here and I hope someone figures out what happened before OSHA does, because those investigations and reports can take up to 6 months — and that’s just the preliminary findings. The statute of limitations for most claims is 2 years, and even though I’m not suggesting that there be legal action taken here, if there was, you don’t want half that time eaten up by procedures and investigations.
