Commentary
Unfortunately, we know very little about what happened here. Reports say the man fell from a roof. Where did this happened? What was he doing on the roof? Was proper safety procedure followed? I have no reason to doubt Western Industrial, but I’ve seen similar accidents in the past in which employees were asked to carry out tasks they had no training for. And unfortunately, that sort of thing can end very tragically. Hopefully the OSHA investigation will shed some light on things in the near future. Unfortunately, OSHA investigations can take months before releasing any meaningful findings. This is a perfect example of a situation where an independent investigation would be perfect for everyone involved. A lot of people don’t know that following a work accident, one has only a limited time to do anything about it. And the clock starts running the day the accident happened, not the day the investigation is completed. For victims and their families, this often means a lot of wasted time.
