Oakland, IA — A worker was injured when he was elevated on a lift and was pinned between a pipe and the lift itself in Oakland, Iowa, on Wednesday, January 14, 2015. The accident happened at the OSI Industries plant, around 10:00 in the morning.
The employee injured in the accident has not been named. After another employee was able to get him down, paramedics were called in, and the man was transported to Nebraska Medicine.
Officials say that the man’s injuries are serious, but don’t appear to be life-threatening. No one else was injured in the accident.
The work the victim was doing when the accident took place isn’t clear at this time.
OSI has conducted the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and are currently investigating the accident.

If we’re just being honest here, several things could have caused this accident. But I have to wonder if the piece of machinery the employee was working on at the time malfunctioned. Reports say that he was pinned between the lift he was working on and a pipe. Did the lift keep extending after the employee tried to stop it? While typically, a work accident is handled solely through an employer’s workers’ comp policy, something like this could fall back on the manufacturer of the equipment. If anyone has any more information on what exactly happened here, I’d like to hear your thoughts.
