Woman Seriously Injured in Fiery Car Accident with Alleged Drunk Driver in Cantrall, IL

Cantrall, IL — A young 19-year old woman from Jacksonville was badly injured in Cantrall over the weekend after a serious car accident with a suspected drunk driver. The woman’s name wasn’t ever released, but the suspected DUI driver was later ID’d as John Digiovanna, 38, of Athens.
This accident happened on Saturday morning, January 10, 2015, around 2:15 a.m. John Digiovanna was driving his car north along Highway 29 when he lost control near Bell Farm Road.
His car then swerved out of the northbound lanes and went into oncoming traffic, where he collided head-on with a southbound Pontiac driven by the 19-year old Jacksonville woman.
The impact caused the woman’s Pontiac to ignite into flames and she was able to escape her car with the help of some passing Good Samaritans. Digiovanna, who caused the accident, was suspected of being under the influence of alcohol and was eventually charged by the Illinois State Police.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.
