Commentary:
Now, I can’t say for sure what exactly happened in this accident, because I don’t even the authorities know for certain, but whenever the sole survivor of an accident paints a picture of no-fault on their part, all while having a job depend on not being faulted for the accident, I can’t help but feel a twinge of skepticism crawl into the back of my mind. Did the skid marks on the road corroborate the truck driver’s story? Is there interesting things to look at in the truck’s telemetry tracking data, things like speed and direction? All it would take to know for sure is having an investigator comb through the evidence piece by piece.
With accidents like this, lingering questions and doubts are not just normal, they’re healthy. For these questions, independent investigators are always available to victims and surviving families. These investigators don’t have to worry about clearing the road, or getting to their next call, or getting off work like police tend to deal with. They focus only on the accident they’re given, and tend to pick up on subtle details police miss during their on-the-scene investigation. It could even show that the accident happened in a completely different way.
