Commentary:
Several news reports said that the offending pickup truck “slid out of control”, so many are going to be quick to blame this accident on the weather, but weather is rarely an adequate excuse. I’ve driven in all kinds of road conditions. Snow storms, dust storms, rain storms, and ice storms, and never once have I lost control of my vehicle because I was going too slow. Furthermore, I’ve been litigating accidents for 25 years, and the same logic applies. Speed limits are posted for the most optimum conditions, so when the road is covered in ice and snow, drivers need to slow it down.
Additionally, considering the nature of Alaskan weather, shouldn’t the driver have known to drive at a safe speed in such adverse conditions?
