Elizabeth Horlicea Killed by Suspected Drunk Driver in Bangor, ME after Accident

Bangor, Maine — Police said that there was a serious accident in Bangor early in the morning on New Year’s Day (Thursday, January 1, 2015) that claimed the life of a woman and left a man facing charges. Police said that Elizabeth Horlicea, 37, was killed when the SUV she was riding in crashed along Finson Road.

The driver of the SUV, 42-year old Shawn Macnevin, was eventually charged with felony drunk driving after police suspected him of being under the influence.

The accident happened at about 2:00 a.m. along Finson Road, near Broadway. Macnevin had been driving his SUV with Horlicea as passenger along Finson Road, headed north, when he lost control. His vehicle then drove off the side of Finson and crashed into a tree.

Elizabeth Horlicea was killed immediately by the impact while Macnevin was taken to a hospital to be treated for his injuries. Police suspected him of being under the influence and, on January 7, announced that he had been charged with felony drunk driving.

Apparently, Macnevin has a history with alcohol-related offenses and was charged with an OUI in 1998 twice. The charges levied against him in this accident may result in 10 years of prison, the news reports said.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
