Sugar Land, TX — A man was injured in two consecutive accidents in Sugar Land, Texas, on Saturday, January 3, 2015. The accident took place on Gaines Road, near Jessie Parker Road.

Police say that a man was traveling along Gaines when he lost control of his car and drove into a ditch. The man got out of his vehicle to inspect the damage and walked into the middle of the road, where he was hit by a passing vehicle. The man’s name has not been released.

The driver of the vehicle that hit the pedestrian called authorities and waited for them to arrive. Paramedics responding to the scene airlifted the man to Memorial Hermann Texas Trauma Institute. Officials said that he is in serious condition, but stable.

Police have said that alcohol did not factor into the crash, and no charges are expected to be filed.

Commentary

I wish we had a few more details about what happened here. A lot of times, accidents like this are the fault of the pedestrian. They’re not paying attention to the road, and they walk out in front of a vehicle without giving the driver any time to react. However, that’s not the only reason accidents like this happen. Sometimes, it’s the driver who’s not paying attention to the road, and accidents that are completely avoidable aren’t avoided. We don’t have all of the details of this particular accident, so speculating one way or the other may not be very productive, but it would be interesting to see exactly what happened here.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
