TAGHKANIC, NY — Renea Fontanez and three of her passengers were hurt after an accident involving a milk truck that happened in Taghkanic, New York on Saturday, January 3rd, 2015. The article about the accident in the local news said that the crash happened sometime Saturday afternoon.
Police tasked with leading the accident investigation said that 48-year-old Renea Fontanez and three of her passengers were injured when the car she was driving collided with an overturned milk-truck while driving on Route 10. Authorities said that the milk truck tipped on a hill in icy road conditions. The truck then rolled backwards and into Fontanez’ path.
Fontanez and three of her four passengers were hurt in the accident.
The driver of the milk truck was identified as Brian Gelinas, who was not hurt in the crash.
New York State Police are still investigating the cause of the accident at this time.

News sources specifically mention that this truck suffered a loss of control and rolled in icy conditions. Now, if the roads were icy at the time, what was the milk truck driver doing going at a speed where control loss was a possibility? I’ve been handling these kinds of cases for over two decades, and never once have I seen a tanker truck or commercial vehicle tip over and roll when the driver was being too careful. These truck drivers are trained to tailor and adapt their driving to match conditions, and if the driver of this trucked failed to do so in icy, hilly conditions, then the company behind him is probably going to be faulted for this accident.
While there could be more going on than I see in the news, if the reports have it right, then the milk truck company needs to answer some very tough questions, in the very near future.
