Mebane, NC — There were three separate accidents in the same area of I-40 this past Wednesday of last week, leaving several people injured and one woman dead. One of the accidents involved a Greyhound bus plowing into an SHP officer’s SUV, injuring him and about 10 others. The injured SHP trooper was identified as D.C. Justice, 46. In an earlier wreck, 33-year old Tiffany Jennings was killed.

This all happened along I-40/85 near mile marker 154 on Wednesday morning, December 24, 2014. There was a wreck near mile marker 254 at about 8:00 a.m. that help up traffic as troopers and police officers responded. A few minutes later, around 8:30, Tiffany Jennings came upon the first crash site in her Saturn.

She lost control of her car and swerved into another lane, crashing into a firetruck, an SHP SUV, and another truck. The accident killed Jennings at the scene and injured a few others as well.

Then, about a hour and a half later – at 10:00 – a Greyhound bus approached the wreckage and wasn’t able to stop in time. The Greyhound swerved as it tried to brake, crash into Trooper D.C. Justice’s SUV, which was blocking traffic for the accident.

He was hurt by the impact and was taken to a hospital to be treated for moderate injuries. Of the passengers on the Greyhound bus, about 10 required medical treatment. None of their injuries were deemed life-threatening, though. The Greyhound bus driver told police that he saw the accident site ahead of him, but wasn’t able to slow down in time. He was coming from Atlanta.

No word on whether charges will be filed here.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
