Salt Lake City, UT — Police have charged the man they believe to be responsible for the death of a cyclist with automobile homicide. The victim’s name was Mitchell Bennett, and he was killed on Thursday, September 25, 2014. The accident took place in Salt Lake City, Utah, near the intersection of 900 West and 3160 South.
Reports say Mitchell was riding his bike north on 900 West when he was hit by Peter Wilcox. Police say Wilcox dragged Mitchell several hundred feet before finally coming to a stop. Emergency responders rushed Bennett to the hospital, where he died five days later, on September 30.
After the accident, Wilcox left his vehicle and was found by police a short time later. When questions, he told officials that the vehicle didn’t belong to him.
