WENDOVER, UT — Paul and Marnie Bowden were hurt in a plane crash that happened in Wendover, Utah on Thursday, December 11th, 2014. The article released by Desert News said that the accident happened sometime Thursday night.

Both Paul Bowden and Marnie Bowden were hurt when the Cessna 172 plane they were in crashed on the main runway of Wendover Airport. The news said that the craft was practicing landings when the plane banked and rolled over.

Paul and Marnie Bowden were taken by EMS to a nearby hospital where they were being treated for their injuries.

The investigation into the accident is currently underway.

Commentary:

The news mentioned that the aircraft was owned by a company, which raises a few questions. First of all, was the plane well maintained? If the aircraft had fallen into a state of disrepair, why would the company allow anybody to take it out for a spin? If this plane had mechanical problems but the company that owned it was still allowing it to fly, then the company could be liable for the accident. In any case, the National Transportation Safety Board is going to look into the accident, but these investigations can take a very, very long time (and burn up a significant portion of the statute of limitations in the process) to get victims answers. If victims need answers sooner than an over-burdened government agency can deliver them.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
