Jenny Quiles Injured by Tow Truck Accident near Williams Park in St. Petersburg, FL

St. Petersburg, FL — There was a serious accident in mid-October that resulted in a pregnant woman being hospitalized for quite some time. 36-year old Jenny Quiles was badly injured and was unconscious in a local hospital after she was hit by a tow truck while crossing the street on October 15, 2014.

Apparently, Quiles (who as pregnant at the time) was walking across First Avenue N that day near Williams Park when she was hit by a tow truck that was trying to make a left turn. She suffered major injuries inanition to a traumatic brain injury. After being taken to a hospital where she spent two weeks unconscious, doctors delivered her child on October 29 — which is the same day she awoke.

She was released from the hospital just last week and still suffers from significant memory loss. Police didn’t say whether the tow truck driver will be facing charges from the October accident.

Commentary:

I remember reading about this accident, and I’m glad that this woman is home with her baby in a much better condition than they were just 2 months ago. Now, I still have concerns about this tow truck driver and I’m little curious as to what became of the investigation. When a driver is making a left turn, they’re usually doing it with a green light, right? Which would mean that the pedestrians need to yield to them — usually. But I’m going to guess that a pregnant woman can’t exactly “dart” into the middle of an intersection, so my point here is this: how did this tow truck driver not see this woman in the intersection?

You’ll have to forgive me for being so brash here, but unless this woman literally stepped out in front of the truck, I don’t see how the tow truck driver couldn’t notice her in the crosswalk. Just because someone has a green light doesn’t mean they can just do whatever they want with impunity. I’d be very curious to see the results of the local police investigation here, as well as the investigation the tow truck company ran.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
