Fatal Semi-Truck Accident Kills Gabriel Kemp in Wadena, MN on Highway 17

Wadena, MN — A passenger in a car was killed this past Saturday in southern Wadena after an accident with an 18-wheeler truck. The accident happened along U.S. Highway 71 and the victim was identified Gabriel Kemp, 23, from Bluffton.

The accident happened at roughly 12:45 a.m. on Saturday morning, December 13. Kemp was a passenger in a car that was headed north along Highway 71 that morning, with 22-year old Tyler Langer as the driver.

As they neared 120th Street, a short distance south of Wadena, Langer lost control of his car and swerved into oncoming traffic. It was there that Langer’s car was hit head-on by a southbound semi-truck, which critically injured him.

He was taken to a nearby hospital, where officials said that he had alcohol in his system. His passenger, Gabriel Kemp, however, was killed immediately in the car accident with the semi-truck.

The truck driver, Jovanny Vega, wasn’t harmed. Police noted that the roads were wet that morning, but haven’t officially ruled on what caused the accident yet.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
