Craryville, NY — Two students were injured when a school bus in Craryville, New York, crashed into a guardrail on Wednesday, December 10, 2014. The accident happened on County Road 11, around 8:45 in the morning.
Reports say that a school bus belonging to the Taconic Hills Central School District was transporting three high school students to a transportation center in Ghent when the driver lost control of the vehicle on icy roads, swerved into the oncoming lane of traffic, and crashed into a guardrail before the bus rolled over onto its side.
Two of the students suffered minor injuries and were taken to Albany Medical Center. The third student was not injured and officials released the student to a parent.
The bus driver was identified as Nicole Jennings. Reports don’t say whether or not she was injured in the accident. Police are continuing to investigate the crash.

Any accident involving a school bus can get a little tricky. As school buses are municipally-owned vehicles, they’re typically protected under the doctrine of sovereign immunity, which is basically a fancy way of saying that they’re very difficult to bring claim against. Not impossible, mind, just difficult. Depending on where the accident takes place, victims actually have very little time to file a claim at all.
