Commentary:
With any kind of serious aviation accident like this one, the investigation is going to be undertaken by officials from the National Transportation Safety Board, which sad to say takes a very, very long time to get results from. For many people who need to know what happened sooner than a yearlong investigation could tell them, having a third party investigation conducted could give the answers that people are looking for, and much faster. Further, NTSB reports are clinical analyses of the crash, and not meant to determine fault or liability. On top of getting the facts sooner, this also allows much more leeway for victims to file a claim if one is warranted without burning off a year of the statute of limitations.
