News reports say that police have brought Dasilva up on multiple charges. It’s important for those who are involved in accidents like these to know that police charging a driver has no bearing on any claim they themselves might file. Police handle the criminal side of things, while victims must take it upon themselves to handle the civil side. Insurance carriers — regardless of who is at fault — aren’t required to pay you anything following an accident. They only pay when someone forces them to. A thorough investigation and plenty of evidence proving a case is vital, because it’ the insurance company’s job to work against you.
