Commentary:
With this accident, a lot is going to depend on the placement of the tow truck on the highway at the time of impact. The news mentioned that it was in the shoulder, but is it possible that the tow truck was sticking out into the lanes of traffic and was pushed into the shoulder completely by the impact? I can’t say for sure, but evidence at the scene of the crash could tell the family of the victim a whole lot more than what a cursory news article, and conducting your own investigation could show a whole different story than what police wrote down in their initial impressions. It is okay to be skeptical of first reports, I’ve seen a great many of them discredited with careful investigation.
