Commentary:
A lot of people are going to try to dump this whole accident into the lap of the driver, but one fact reported in the news makes me wonder if the accident would have been survivable had it not been for a single factor. The fact that the helmet came off in the accident could mean a few things. It could mean that the helmet was not properly affixed to the victim, it could mean that the helmet did not fit properly to begin with, but it could also mean that the helmet was not properly constructed to withstand an accident. I’ve seen accidents with motorcycles at extremely high speeds, both in races on television, and in police reports, and something with this accident just doesn’t add up. A quick look at the helmet could tell us quite a bit more. Again, I could be wrong, but lets try and wait for the results of the investigation before we pin an accident on somebody just because they were on two wheels and not four.
