Piqua, OH — Police say they have arrested Ronald Hass, the man they believe is responsible for a multi-vehicle pileup on Interstate 75 near Piqua, Ohio, on Wednesday, November 26, 2014.
Reports say that Hass was driving a vehicle hauler that was swerving back and forth on the road before crashing into several vehicles before hitting a guardrail. Hass stopped a little further up the interstate before getting out of his truck and fleeing on foot. Witnesses say that Hass reportedly tossed beer cans out of his vehicle before running away.
Three people were injured in the accident. Emergency workers took them to Wilson Memorial Hospital, Upper Valley Medical Center, and Miami Valley Hospital. Their names have not been released.
Police arrested Hass the next day. The accident is still being looked into.

Commentary
If the police got their man, there’s no question that he and the company he works for are going to have some very tough questions to answer. Luckily, there were no fatalities in this accident, but the man still needs to be held accountable for what he’s done. Unfortunately, the talk following many accidents like this turns to many, which invariably turns to how greedy anyone seeking legal action is. But I believe the people who choose to focus on such things are really missing the point. People who do these sorts of things — especially in a professional capacity — have to be held accountable. If not, who’s to say that they’re not going to do something like this a month or a year down the road? If everyone who did something like this was held responsible for it, we wouldn’t see these kinds of accidents. Hopefully, we’ll see something similar happen here.
