Commentary:
The news mentioned that the tractor-trailer was backing out into the street when the accident happened. Now, my questions center around why the truck was moving in reverse perpendicular to the flow of traffic. Was there not a better way this could have been done? Was the truck driver using a spotter behind them to warn them of traffic in the road? Could the truck driver not see the oncoming vehicle through his passenger side window while he was backing out into his path? Ultimately these are questions that need to be answer, and something in my gut tells me that the trucking company is going to be very, very deliberate with their answers. There is no doubt in my mind that this accident needs a much closer look, and if the truck driver was doing something careless or illegal, then the trucking company needs to face the music.
