Rubicelia Casillas Killed by SUV Accident on Highway 287 near Dumas, TX

Dumas, TX — A woman from Cactus was killed and four others in her vehicle, three of them children, were injured after an accident that happened north of Dumas over the weekend. Police said that Rubicelia Casillas, 37, was killed while Procoro Navarrete-Fajardo and two teenagers were injured after Navarrete-Fajardo lost control of his SUV.

The accident happened this past Saturday (November 1, 2014), just north of the Dumas area. Navarrete-Fajardo was driving a Ford SUV north along Highway 287 last Saturday morning at about 11:30 a.m., carrying Rubicelia Casillas, a 13-year old, a 15-year old, and a 9-year old as passenger.

About two miles north of Dumas, Navarrete-Fajardo lost control of his Ford SUV and swerved off the roadway toward the median. The SUV then lost traction and flipped over multiple times.

As a result, Casillas was critically injured and taken to a hospital, where she died later that night. Navarrete-Fajardo and the three minors were taken to a hospital, where they were treated for various injuries. The 9-year old was the most seriously injured, authorities said.

Right now, it’s not clear why Navarrete-Fajardo lost control of his SUV, but the Texas DPS said they’d be investigating some more.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
