Cody Aro Injured by Semi-Truck Accident on U.S. 2 near Devils Lake, ND

Devils Lake, ND — Earlier this week, a man from Grand Forks was injured near Devils Lake after his car was in an accident with a semi-truck. It happened just east of Devils Lake on U.S. Highway 2 and the injured victim was identified later as Cody Aro, 29 years old.

Police said that Aro was driving his Chevrolet Malibu along U.S. 2 last Monday afternoon (November 3, 2014), headed east. Around 4:15 p.m. that afternoon, a semi-truck apparently tried to make a turn from a gravel road onto eastbound U.S. 2.

Aro’s car didn’t slow down in time and crashed into the semi-truck’s trailer, causing Aro’s Chevy to swerved off the road and crash into a ditch on the other side of the highway.

The accident left Aro with some injuries and he was taken to a hospital, while the truck driver (Randy Wessels) wasn’t harmed. Police said that Aro was charged with following too closely, even though the news reports make it sound like the semi-truck turned in front of him. This is still being investigated.

Commentary:

From the details in the news report, it sounds like the semi-truck was turning into the eastbound lane which appears to be the same lane that the victim’s car was in. I don’t mean to sound accusatory here, but doesn’t that simply suggest that the semi-truck driver pulled out in front of the victim without yielding to him? If you ask me, that sounds like the truck driver’s fault, not the victim’s fault.

Now, the police report read that the victim was charged with following too closely, but I think this might need a little closer investigating – or at least some more accurate reporting.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
