Commentary:

Even though the cause of this accident has yet to be determined, the few facts we see in the news give us quite a number of clues for us to speculate on. Whenever an accident happens in the late night/early morning hours, there are two main possibilities that I’ve seen: On one hand, people are overworked and exhausted, and falling asleep behind the wheel causes a tremendous amount of accidents each year. On the other hand, when an accident happens at or around the 2:00 last-call for bars, I can’t help but wonder if another bar or nightclub unleashed another dangerous driver on the road that they should have cut off, but failed to. Believe it or not, bars are not there to get you intoxicated. They are there to serve alcohol in a safe and responsible fashion, much like shooting ranges offer a safe environment to shoot.

When bars ignore the laws that were made to ensure the safe sale and service, they need to be held accountable, just like gun clubs can be when accidents happen after they fail to stick to the rules. If a person is visibly intoxicated, it is not only unsafe to serve them, but it is also illegal. The laws that prevent the sale of alcohol to intoxicated people are not there to deprive bars and businesses of revenue, they are there to protect everyone on the road.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
