Vineland, NJ — Yesterday morning, a man from Philadelphia was killed in Vineland after his minivan was in an accident with an 18-wheeler truck on Route 55. This happened at about 9:30 a.m. on Monday morning (October 13, 2014) and the man who died was identified as Alberto Montanez, 52 years old.
Police say that Montanez was driving his blue Dodge Caravan along Route 55, headed south, on Monday morning when he lost control for unknown reasons. Near Exit 35, Montanez swerved off the right side of the highway and crashed into the back of an 18-wheeler truck that was apparently parked on the shoulder.
His minivan sustained major front-end damage, which critically injured Montanez. After he was airlifted to a Pennsylvania hospital, he died from his injuries.
It doesn’t look like anyone in the cab of the 18-wheeler was hurt.
So far, police said they’d investigate this further. It wasn’t clear from the news reports, however, whether the 18-wheeler was legally parked on the side of the highway or was too close to the road.
