Evansville, IN — A man had to be taken to the hospital in Evansville, Indiana, after being thrown from a car in an alleged DUI accident on Saturday, October 11, 2014. The accident happened on U.S. 41, around 4:00 in the morning.
Reports say that Katherine Utley was traveling along 41 and blew through a red light, crashing into a Buick Electra. Two people were inside the Electra at the time, and both were ejected from the vehicle. Montray Copeland was uninjured and refused to be treated. Police say that Maris Powell suffered a possible head fracture, and had to be taken to the Deaconess Trauma Unit. At last report, his condition was life-threatening.
Utley told police that she had been at a nearby fraternity house earlier that evening, and had drank four beers. She had a BAC of 0.19, which is more than twice the legal limit. She struck her head on the windshield in the accident and also had to be taken to the hospital.
The accident is still being investigated.
